Amethyst is associated will Achill island in Co. Mayo where it was once very plentiful. We use it to represent the heather covered mountains of Ireland. The Romans believed it protected against drunkenness. It is the stone of wisdom and intuition.
Kilkenny marble is a dark limestone which has been quarried in Kilkenny for hundreds of years. It was formed over 350 million years ago when warm seas covered the area which is now Ireland.
